New member/collector from Fort Bend County

I'm new to this site and to collecting/hunting in general. I recently moved to Katy, Texas from Fort Worth. About a year ago I was heading to a deer blind at my father-in-law's ranch in Real County when I stumbled upon what I considered to be a nice piece. That's all it took to get me hooked. I've since found several dozen broken pieces but nothing like my first find. I'll take some pictures and post them soon. Does anyone know of any areas in Fort Bend or Harris County I could do some hunting?

This was my first find and since I'm new at this I have no idea how to identify it. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. (found in Real County, Texas) I've since found dozens of broken pieces and a few near complete pieces at the same site. The site was determined by members of the Hill Country Archaeological Association to be one of two campsites on the ranch. I'll try to get pictures up of some of the better pieces I've found there.

Can I assume that since it was a campsite that most of the pieces are going to be broken? The campsite sits at the highest point in Real County and there are no water sources on the ranch, which is about 615 acres. There are plenty of canyons and two caverns (one requiring a latter to enter). Should I be looking elsewhere or continue to look at the campsite. I've tried digging but there it's so rocky it's nearly impossible.

Nice. Thats some real pretty flint, too.

I would say a knife, or pre-form.

Look around at the bottom of those canyons, you never know what could have washed down over the years...

Thanks for all the welcome messages. And thanks for the information, Mpoppitt. I'm going to head down to the ranch in a couple of weeks and I'll check out the canyons and post anything I find.

Welcome to the site. There should be a ancient spring somewhere close if there are two camps on the place, or maybe some dry creeks that would have ran thousands of years ago. Keep looking and you will find more.
