I'm sorry to break it to you guys but all those "effigies" are just river rocks. I found about thirty of your "effigies" today. I will post pics if you want to see my awsome "cache". NICE FINDS!!!! The voids in the stained sandstone are left when the weaker cement gets weathered away.

Sorry to break it to you pal, but the piece I found isn't sandstone and it was found nowhere near a creek or river.

I never said mine was an effigy...just an "interesting rock". And since it is the first one I've ever found I was curious...ok then?

I have heard of many fire starter type rocks and wonder if anyone might have one to share. It would clear up this thread. And many personal questions I have on this subject,Considering how easy it would be to use flint sparks.

Supaadave, I'm sure he was referring to the piece that I thought that looks like an owls head that I posted and not yours. Anyway, that was a pretty belligerent comment he made and definitely not a very good way to make friends here.

But back to MY question?

Your welcome.

I'm not going to go out on a limb myself and say that's what you have but if it's a natural feature I'd say it's something an indian would want.

Well ,,Doc,,,The video answered some more questions. And the thing about my rock is that it has a lot of patina/and use ware.as you could see from the pics..It was found in La Grange Tx.by my father.a very lithic area.I'm not going to throw it out now that i see how it might have been used.
I had it backwards/Thinking the rock was placed on the ground.I might need it if My Zippo didn't work in the bush.
