    Human altered bone?

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Any opinions are appreciated!

I found this piece of bone about 5 feet down in a hole I dug on my property in Southwest Iowa near the Missouri River. I have found a few random crude stone tools in the same general area as well. Can anyone identify? It's about the size of a baseball. It sure appears to have been altered to my untrained eye... almost looks like it could of been used as a spool or the like?

Sorry the other pics didn't show up for some reason. For the life of me I can't figure out what kind of bone this is. I will try this again with pics...

The pics aren't the clearest... but the inner part of the bone sure looks like it has indention/remnants of it being lashed to something or had rope spooled on it?

Write to/e-mail the guy at Iowa State (or some other place) who deals with such stuff.

I wish someone knowledgable would have weighed in on this. It looks like bone but hard to tell for sure from a photo. Is it lighter than stone? Curious piece whatever it is.
