Same with everyone else in the U.S...finding artifacts meant braving 95 degree heat on Saturday. Managed to come home with two (bottom picture). Always open for suggestions, but I believe the one on the left is a MacCorkle? lf not, there's a little known type identified by Fogelman for this region called a Crooked Creek Series. The piece on the right...at first I thought it was just a flake, but upon closer examination under a loop I'm pretty certain it is indeed a rough little triangle point. It shows up a little bit better in the first pic (lower left). Either way, it won't end up in the center of any frames!
The first pic shows this season's take (included only those with the majority remaining...found an equal number of bases, tips, etc.). The year's results are pretty indicative of what I've come up with each of the last 8-10 years. I average around 25-30 whole or nearly whole per spring. If you recall an earlier thread from several months ago, I posed a question asking: What's your points-per-hour rate? I tracked again this year and put in about 60 hours, giving me just under one artifact for two hours of walking.
I think you'll agree they represent a neat variety of materials and time periods. My most intriguing find is at the 12 o'clock position in the first pic, center (facing down, no base or notching). Ever-so-slight concave base and a defined median ridge. Shows some secondary pressure flaking on the edges. It is unlike anything I've ever found and I have yet to identify. Any thoughts are welcome.
I'm heading for my first creek walk on the 4th. It runs parallel to a very productive field. Looking forward to a new experience. Will let you know how I make out.
Got some good ones. I am still waiting to find 1 point this yr. I have found every thing else it seems but a point. And most of my finds have been so crude they wont show up well in a pic.
Here's a better pic of the point I questioned in my post. Thanks.
Looks like you're having a good run so far, Hutch.
Wish I could help with your mystery point, but I'm too new at this to offer an opinion - waiting for my Overstreet to arrive though !
Just out of curiosity, what's your mode of hunting...field walking...creek hunting...digging...or all of the above ?
Keep at it and stay cool.
Mark
Couple of those points looks like the ones we call San patrice around here. One resembles a albany knife.
All shown are field finds. And be careful with Overstreet (or any guide for that matter!). They're fun to read and will point in the right general direction...but people who are a LOT smarter than me question their accuracy. My best sources have been local books produced by people from my region. Thanks for the feedback.
Nice Hutch can we see some different shots it looks late paleo

Life comes at you fast_______duck
You have had a Great season so far! Those are some nice artifacts! Congrats
I'll look for your report on how the creek walk went. I am very interested since I am trying to figure out that type of hunting myself.
Nice finds/haul Hutch. I am new, and have to use my overstreet also. Thanks for sharing and good luck on the 4th.
