Thumbs up vote stone

Obviously, by my username, I am in favor of hardstone artifacts getting a little more room for discussion. The pionts are nice and very important, but the tools tell the rest of the story, and a lot of it is still unknown. A good sub-forum for hardstone would also be a geofact section. The Calico Site in the Mojave Desert of California is a good example. Lots of oppinions on both sides, but it seems the acadamia are winning. If you are not familiar with this site, google it and you will find some very interesting stuff. And of course, also some bizarre stuff to go along with it. (you really have to squint your eyes a certain way to see those intentionally flaked mammoth and bison). But the rest of the story should be looked into and not ignored. There are some very old artifacts out there that would really shake up the timetable of the arrival of the Clovis technologies. That is one example of geofacts versus artifacts, but this is kind of off topic of the hardstone stuff! Yah! I vote for hardstone!

Hey, sorry about confusing you. I didn't post those images as manos. I was talking about the Calico Site, and in my mind, I thought I should post an image of a stone tool. The image is what I think is a basalt hand axe that I recently found on a dry lake bed shoreline. One end shows really nice hard percussion flaking and the other end has been ground to fit comfortably into the hand.

I have a mountain of manos (a small mountain) in the livingroom, which has my wife concerned, so I am very familiar with them. I in fact found two broken ones yesteday evening at a new hunting area, so I will diffenately be heading back. I also found the base of a heartbreaker point, which I will post if anyone is interested in heartbreaks.

Why not go with all of the above ?? I would like to see a root hunting forum lol juuuUUst kidding . Actually I would like to see a flint typing forum. It seems a lot of folks are most interested in typing points but some folks like to get a little deeper and find out the flint type. It also seems like most folks on here are only knowledgeable to the flint of their areas and past that the typing is too confusing as there are so many variations to typing flint, like weathering, variations in the stone itself, traded material through ancient networks etc. The reason some of you might not seem so interested in flint types is because you already know a bit about it. In my case I have hunted flint for going on 20 years now and I know flintridge I know upper mercer, BOYLE CHERT!!lol, etc. for most of my collecting life anything I didn't know the type of I didn't think about it, but recently I have been turned on by some of the intriguing facts there are about the distribution and trade networks of some materials. One of the things I think new collectors might benefit from most is not only what type and culture their point came from but also the type of material they used and how the ancient folks came to have that material.

Some realy great ideas up there.I would like to see a tools sub.Hardstone, flint, wood,or bone.I am with ManoMan in the thinking that points can tell you of thier culture, but tools tell the story of the people that made them...Neo

Came into this thread too late to vote but I think regional sections sounds like a winner.
