Those are sweet gems that remind me of some of the lithics from my neck-of-the-woods (Washington State). Keep posting them photos! Question though, what does "palmwood" really mean? Is it supposed to be a specific species of tree? If so, could the points you posted be from different species? Or, is palmwood a local term for petrified wood? We get a fair number of "petrified wood" points around here, and I have always wanted to take this to a higher level and be able to figure out what species of "petrified wood" a specific point is made off, but I have also heard there are at least 50 different species of petrified wood around here, which intimidated me so I regressed to being happy with just saying petrified wood. We have places like Ginkgo Petrified National Forest, check this out: HistoryLink.org- the Free Online Encyclopedia of Washington State History

Kent---All the palmwood material has streaks in it . It was part of the original wood---I call them " seeds "---tho that may not be accurate . Some are white , red , pink , black , purple , brown , and blue . I guess the from the minerals found in the soil that replaced the natural fibers . They are found in the material itself , as well as on the exterior .

A really interesting read on this is found in THE CATAHOULA GEOLOGICAL FORMATION This fault runs from just north of here eastward into La. Nechesbob may have better info . Those " seeds " are a main distinguishing feature of a point made of palmwood .

thx for nice comments Kent ! db

C R C ---Palmwood is petrified , but all petrified wood is NOT palmwood . Palmwood , as I understand it , is a true tree , and for some reason it makes a much prettier material than the petwood oak , pine , etc makes . I think I will make a frame of palmwood debitage and display it also . Don

i have about 200 artifacts from one creek here in east texas , but there is no palm wood in it , they must have been poor and couldn't afford pretty lithics , lol
