Great Mississippian Artifacts

This has been one of my favorite websites for years. It was taken off line several years ago but I recently rediscovered it via an archive site. The link will take you directly to the exploration (sadly the destruction) of the Spiro mounds. The links to the left have great information and pictures of primo Mississippi/Caddo artifacts.

Thanks for that link....I've wondered what happened to the website. I think it gets people riled up to see all those surreal artifacts.....maybe sets them off in a wild collecting spree mode, which is kind of what happened in the first place.

Thanks for link! it doesn't seem to work quite right but I will go back. I have the Oct 1952 "The Missouri Archaeologist" which a fascinating publication on Spiro. It has photos of some of the finest stuff that came from there. Good one to get if you can find it, Ray

The link is slow to load because of what's happening behind the scene. There is a site called "The Way Back Machine" that archives millions of web pages. If a site disappears you can likely find it there or if you want to see an older version of a current site they'll have it. They are frequently slow but after it loads it will work pretty fast. The site has a lot of great photos of stuff from related sites and broken out into nice categories.

Thanks for the heads-up on that book!

I couldn't get any of the links on the left hand side to work. They all said "not found in archives". Still cool to read about it on that first page.

See if this link works better. It is to the home page of the old site. It's worth the hassle if you can get it to cooperate.
