Good links.

Article #1. Clearly the author has never hunted rabbits without a gun. Snares or not.

Article #2. Every time I see that pile of Hopewell discs I get a little weak in the knees.

Article #3. I've decided that I could never participate in a dig like that. The thought of finding something and not being able to keep it breaks my selfish little heart.

You said it, i didn't. There are multiple flake removals to shape the nose, easily discernable, the perfectly round eye in the perfect place is no accident either, in my opinion.Maybe it was a walking stick\talking stick\staff head, maybe some dude was effing around, and when he broke the stone some other dude said" hey man, that kinda looks like a rabbit", so he knocked off a few flakes and ground out an eye and gave it to his kid to play with,, maybe he found it in this shape, and just modified it slightly, but there is clear evidence of intentional work on the piece, and, if it looks like a rabbit effigy to you today, why would it not have looked like one to the ancients? Do you think crossing the Bering straits took away the artistic desires of the ancient Americans? Or just because you have never seen one means they can't exist?I found this in a local creek myself. Cleaned the algae off of it myself, looked at it under magnification, and pondered over it many times, and came to the same conclusion you did in your derisive comment. It is what it is.
