Pick up an Arrowhead; #8 on your 'To do before you die list'

Mike Leggett of the Austin American Stateman lists picking up an arrowhead as No. 8 on his list of 24 Things Every Texan Should Do Before He Dies.

Check out his column which also includes Jerry Bridwell who many of you know.

You'll find the story and video of some Texas artifacts being found here.

Enjoy!

Shannon

Sports Page

Thanks for posting this Article Shannon
I grabed the News paper off the front porch this Morning to see what my Rangers Had done//Err ahh,,, or did'nt do(Cliff Lee has the worst outing of his Big League career as the Rangers fall to the Orioles 8-6)When the front page of the sports section had this article. Not much ever stops me from going straight to Baseball highlights section,,,but this morning my usual morning ritual was derailed.
The Article touched briefly on the the legalities of Texas Artifact hunting ,,Which Is interesting to me.I think every-one should know just where the Law stands on this issue.I think it had a holistic approach to Finding Artifacts and this is what needs to be projected to the general public.

Thanks Shannon for geting this out to our Arrowheadology Community.

That reminds me of an article I recently read but did not post a link to. The article was about illegal digging in SW GA on public land that left human remains scattered. The guys were caught and an archaeologist that I correspond with every now and then was called to the site to evaluate the degree of damage. He and the state archaeologist (whom I worked with on a Civil War project) testified at the trial where the judge threw the book at the guys big time as they richly deserved. The interesting part (and my point) is that the state archaeologist called upon the judge to recognize the difference in what these characters did and surface hunting of points. Given how stringent GA laws are I was gratified to see that an attempt to point out the difference.

It can be a gray area for some of us Texans,,Hell,,Back in the Day before DWI laws were set up it was normal for folks to Drink and Drive,,,I was A black-out drunk by the time I was 16,,,The point I am trying to make is not every one is real savy on the laws or they choose not to conform. We had a case recently over in Williamson county,,(Thats one county over) Where they caught a Guy on the Banks of a lake collecting Artifacts,,This is the same Co. that gives Big sentences for DWI's. I don't know what he got but I am sure it is not pretty.
I would like to see my state change the Laws but it does not look like it will happen very soon,,,Until then We must follow the law or become an example.
Oh by the way I Refrain from drinking too much now,,,and if I do I can always call a cab///c
