Might have something to do with protection from critters and other people. Just a guess on my part, I really don't know.

That is amazing. I think the article did mention he was sleeping in those holes.

Also:

"He eats mostly wild game, which he either hunts with his bow-and-arrow or traps in spiked-bottom pitfalls."

His resting quarter one night might be a spike pitfall trap the next day. Good way to hunt and cover your tracks from people following you at the same time.

Interesting that at a time when we as modern humans are most interconnected we would long for and envy his solitude and self-reliance. And how awful that the government would respect his rights to his home only now that his tribe is gone. Thanks for the link, neat story.

It has to be a very lonely life. It would be fun for a week after that I would probably rather be dead than to keep living day after day with no friends or relatives.
