    Red Ochre Uses'

Recently reading "Travels in the Ice Age" and found that ochre was used for more then face painting. Archaeologists tell us you can add pine mastic to ochre to attach stone tools to wooden handles. It also has preservative properties for skins and hides, and is known to heal wounds. Also can be used to tan animal hides and keep off rot, and can maintain the skin of corpses. Maybe that is why it is found in many graves
