There have been several over 100 lbs come out of Lake Tawakoni . . . and one I know of was 111 pounds. Is it true that trot line catches aren't eligible for records?

To be eligible for a record it must be caught on rod and reel by one angler.....no handing off the rod to a second person per IGFA rules (International Game Fish Association)......I've caught fish three times that size in tournaments and for fun but certainly not in fresh water! That thing is a monster!!! |

That just seems kind of dumb to me. If it's the biggest, it's the biggest, whether it was caught on a trot line or on a rod and reel or with a harpoon. Wonder how big the REAL record catfish is?

I agree, the biggest is the biggest. I think the IGFA is the only association that actually keeps records so everyone goes by them. I've heard of fish caught in gill nets that would have easily beat a record but no one keeps those results to my knowledge.

My gosh...That is one ugly sucker..I mean catfish! Don't know what I'd do with something like that. Think of all the stuff that thing ate off the bottom of the river over the years. I wonder how old that thing is.

Surprisingly enough, those big boys are good eating. Tether them off the end of the dock for a week and let them swim off some of the fat, then cut em up into filets or steaks and fry em up with French fries and Hush Puppies . . . GOOD eating!!

Indianasmith...We got channel cats up here that most people smoke. The ones we catch through the ice are exceptionally good cause the meat is nice and firm. The damn catfish are taking over our lake though and that's not a good thing. They eat just about anything that falls in front of their face, so any spawn is just about history before it is made. I grew up eating bullheads. We had them every Friday and our family went usually every Sunday afternoon in the summer to catch Friday nights meal. Fond memories.
