Sierra mini vacation

Went up to Mammoth for a couple days for some fishing and ATV'ing and had a great time. We fly fished Lake Crowley and did only so so but did catch a few nice ones. Took the Ranger up in to the mountains ( Mojave, Manoman and a few others might recognize the area) and found some wild horses, mine shafts and a couple indian shelter rings. I usually go up into these mountains to look for and observe the wild horses with the family and don't get to spend to much time looking for points.

Yep, that looks like the old stomping grounds. There is a lot of stuff up there above the Sherwin Grade and on over towards Bodie Hills. Many years ago there was some pretty impressive paleo sites in Long Valley and over near the Casa Diablo quarry.
Horses lived in large numbers on the other side of Adobe Valley near Pizona. Some of the best stuff I ever saw came out of an area around Huntoon Springs. Really hard to get to though.
Those are some good memories.

Those are great pictures, and looks like you had a lot of fun on that trip. I take it you were using wet flies?

It's amazing that those shelter rings still exist and are dirscernable as such. Nice pictures.
Thanks!

Yep, it's a nice area, and typical of the high desert on the eastern slope of the Sierra. There are PLENTY excellent hunt spots all the way from So Cal to OR.
