Here's an Argiope that photographed in our yard in Kailua last November. Garden spiders abound in HI, and there's no shortage of these. They are no threat to us, just something nice to see. The color really makes them stand out.

yep, another argiope, Mojave. Their identifier, besides the size and color, is the zig zag pattern in the web that they align themselves with.

We get the big yellow ones around our flower garden all the time. My wife always wants me to kill the because she is scared to death of spiders, just as I am, but I told her they are harmless will eat a lot of bugs so just leave them alone and work around them. We always called them "writing spiders" because of the patterns they make in their webs.

Found another one today.
No artifacts found today but did see some critters out.
![]() Another orb weaver. ![]() Looked up in this nice oak that allowed a little sunlight to penetrate the thick canopy of the area and saw a patch of fur. ![]() A bit early for this guy to be out. ![]() These tiny things are out everywhere. Sitting on a small oak leaf gives you an idea of the size. ![]() A site covered thanks to all the wonderful rain we've had. ![]() I've only ever seen these on cactus plants. Anyone know what these funny creatures are? Shannon

Definitely an Orb Weaver Shannon. The old timers (and me and my kids, because of those old timers) around here have called them "Acorn Spiders" for years. The almost always make thier webs in oak and cedar trees, and they usually stretch to the ground. Paul
