In our area we have this problem as well as, grasshoppers and leaf cutter ants. The grasshoppers, this time of year, can be up to 4" long.

Be sure to re-apply the Sevin dust after any significant rain. We have had relative success with insecticidal(sp) soap as well.

Another option I have used for the last 10 years is to plant enough for me and the neighbors and the Hornworms to enjoy. I do use poison on fire ants when they show up.

I tried growing Tobacco this year. Hornworms are a huge problem for tobacco, but you Southerners probably already know that . Not much Tobacco growing in these cooler parts.

Only had a little aphid outbreak. Took the organic route and chopped up 2 cups of tomato leaves and soaked them in 2 cups of water for 24 hours. Strain into a spray/mist bottle and them little buggers died within the hour. The tomato plant is a nightshade and contains an alkaloid that is toxic to aphids but safe to humans and animals. Probably works on some other bugs, I dunno.

Huh, the aphids eat my tomato plants, and tobacco and tomato are the same family.

Neo - you can check your plants every couple of days and pick off the hornworms as you see them, when they get big they will make a noise when you shake the plant so it's easier to find them. - Dipel is an organic pesticide that kills them. You can find it in soluble powder form at most feed/farm stores. Barring that, they make a pretty moth...
