About this site.....

I have a few suggestions for this site. First of all I would like to say how much I have enjoyed this site, it's basically the only place I visit on the evil box. I know I may have came on a little strong here and there with some posts, but I like to get a laugh here and there. I joined this site in december after about a 10 year LOA from the internet and computers. I have been into computers since the mid 80s (remember the commadore 64? lol) then the internet came about and geesh all I wanted to do was cram information into my zip drives lol. So when my 3,000 dollar system crashed in 00 I said thats it I don't need computers to live, and I didn't stop there, I havent used phones , satallite, or net, since 00 until december. When I finally let my kids( I have 6) talk me into getting net, phone, web it was chaos, fighting over the remote, fighting over net time etc. I still haven't adjusted to it. I felt bad for depriving my kids of these "luxuries" until I got it all back, now I'm thinking about not using them again. See like right now I'm wasting time, this post will probably mean very little . My kids don't help around the farm as much because of it . From this deterioration in motivation in my own world here shows me how and why the world is deteriorating, oh no here i go...ok im not going to talk about bbqing giant beaver I'll get back to the point I was trying to make. I like this site but some folks might not think that some obscure things they post might get stumbled upon by kids. I know that what I have seen on here really isn't too derogatory, but to somone who tries to keep every "bad thing" or "offensive thing" etc from their children as possible it makes it hard to open up posts in front of them where unexpectedly I have to explain why that tree has a big penus. lol. Or (no offense here STEVE, love your flint love your posts) but I was looking on here with my son and opened up your post about the blow up doll, I was very embarrassed in front of him and didn't feel like answering any questions as to what that was, I mean he's 15 he'll find out what everything is in this cruel world soon enough, but I'll keep it all away as much as possible. I know some folks have a different philosophy in raising their children, like ok let them know about some things , teach them about them in your way and that way they don't learn something from someone else the wrong way. I do that to an extent but not with everything. I'm just saying that archaeology has always been a big part of my life and my kids lives I've had them all out the fields and clearcuts since they were babies. They have access to this site at school as well as other sites I have no control over. My suggestion is to everyone on here is to treat this site more like a learning and teaching aid for folks who are interested in flint (which of course we all do) but remember some people might be sitting here looking over the site with kids. I don't let my kids look on here with me anymore I will show them things I have alreay opened and checked out, but it was a sad moment when I realized that even this new site I was gaining trust in , in the beginning, let me down just a bit. Don't get me wrong I like this site, but you should keep in mind that the world is screwed up enough , you don't have to be a part of it. Another thing I would like to mention is that this site has a lot of potential. I have seen it grow in just the past 2-3 months and I think it will continue to grow. I like the idea of contests and the like (merchandise/paraphanalia etc.) why isn't there contests more often. If there are ways for me to contribute anything to this site I will do so, I'm willing to pitch in with ideas, and whatever it takes to get up some prizes for folks to win . Since the site is growing it would be nice for someone to be able to win something at least bi weekly. I love winning stuff!!lol T-shirts, stickers, user donated items, books etc. I think it would be great fun .

I agree with you Papa, sometimes the anonymity of the internet allows people to write/post things they never would in person, (not that I haven't been guilty of that on occasion but only at a site that has a sub-forum where anything goes and everyone knows that). Of course some people would behave the same in real life too, which is how I try to conduct myself online. My own aversion to technology is the TV, I have one and my son (9 soon) does play video games on it, but other than movies from the library we are not hooked up to cable so I haven't had TV show access going on 10 years and I don't miss it one bit. Of course now I find myself on this black window much more than I should be, lol. You're not the first to post on this topic and surely not to be the last. I would hope some would respect your opinion and try to tone it down, but you might expect a few posts telling you to keep a better eye on your children, that's what I usually see after these kinds of posts...but for what it's worth I'm with you.

I think it's a good point. When I typed in the word "woodpecker" and that tree popped up I thought it was humorous. I hadn't thought for a second that kids would be on an old feller arrowhead forum and didn't really find it offensive myself, though I didn't show my 9,6 and 4 year old boys, so I just put it up.

My apologies for any uncomfortable moments it caused.

On the subject of kids/tv/computers. We just got our kids an Xbox 360 at Christmas, which is our first video game console(sports and lego games only). I put cyberpatrol on the computer to block most of what the internet seems to provide and we monitor what TV shows and channels they watch so I'm sympathetic to the plight of dealing with the good and bad that the information age has to offer.

Having said that, I wouldn't give up the internet over anything but food, shelter and family. SO much information. It's like having 1000 sets of encyclopedias that are current, fluid and talk back to you.

the sad thing is....now that the world so tied up in technology...to take away the internet or the computers or the television may be taking away stuff that the kids will need in the future....i dont like for my kids to be online, but i do run filters so that gthey dont get as much of the ignorant stuff. and honestly to shelter the kids so much may even be a harm in the long run....they need to know what the real world is like...but only at a certain age....if they arent prepared for it...when they go out in it it will eat them alive. but i really do agree with you guys in that this forum should stay clean and respectful....not only do my kids look on here with me but i do show my mother stuff from here....and she doesnt need to read about blow up dolls or penis trees. so its up to all of us to keep this clean.

Dave i thought it was humorous as well. Sometimes I don't think about things I do either, I'm not claiming to be perfect or nothing. And with the doll thing lol, It would be hard for me not to post that too if I found it out on a hunt. Yeah 1000s of encyclopedias !!

Papa, have you read the book, "The Shack"? The main character meets someone by the name of "Papa". I am not a religious person, but there are messages there.

Well guys after reading this it made me realize that kids and possibly schools are accessing this information.
From what I can tell,,,other forums get brought down by instances just like this.I don't surf other forums because most everything I need to know is right here.I hope that we can all continue to make a positive impact to this site.I have never been offended here.
The "ology" is what I think the originators had in mind/comanche
