  • Lehner Clovis Mammoth Kill Site

In 1952, ranch owner Ed Lehner discovered mammoth bone fragments on his property in southern Arizona. Several years later, heavy rains revealed more remains and the Arizona State Museum investigated.

They found two Clovis projectile points among the ribs of a young mammoth in the first season of study. In all, thirteen fluted Clovis culture projectile points, butchering tool, hearth features and debitage where identified.

Recently cherokeephil posted two videos of the site with an informative voice-over describing the find and the landscape.

Very interesting. Just logging surface finds would be a blast...
