Yesterday's Mailbox finds . . .

I was going to post these last night, but I could not get the Photobucket page to work for some reason . . ..
I got to work and Photobucket was running just fine here . . . sounds like I need to run a virus scan on my computer! Anyway, I didn't get that big collection (the "Holding My Breath . . ." one) yet, but I did get this lovely collection of South Dakota artifacts in. Everything here looks good as gold to me, right materials and types for that part of the country, and some killer birdies and one good Paleo in the bunch! It was cloudy, so the pic is a little dark, but here are the shots I got of them yesterday!

For size reference, the little Paleo lance is right at 2" long. I bought these to sell at Tulsa, but if you see something you want, just let me know - forum brothers get first pick! I'm thinking $50 for the Paleo, and $20 each for the best three bird points . . . somewhat less for the rest.

Paleo

If the paleo is still around, you might want to toss it into the saftey deposit box and let it age another year to two. It looks like a Haskett, typical of the Great Basin region. Classic form, with clam shell flaking. Material looks like a fine grained basalt (a cousin of obsidian). The white crusty material near the base, typically found only on one side (and pretty tough I'd bet), is very typical desert patination that we see out here. It may have "wandered" over to SD in ancient times, or the original collector could have acquired it on a vacation trip thru Oregon or NV. Check your Overstreets, easily worth a hundred bucks today, and likely to increase to over a couple of hundred after the economy recovers. VERY Nice point, classic type example.
