Not what I expected, but not bad!!!
I bought this collection on EBay based on a couple of grainy photos and the fact that it was being sold out of Billings, Montan - I had hopes for a bunch of dandy high plains points, maybe even a Paleo or two . . . the points were waiting for me when I got home yesterday, and I had some friends standing by when I ripped the box open.
To my surprise, all the points are eastern types - the few that have provenance written on them are from Kentucky, but most look like Ohio/Pennsylvania types. I'm gonna give a provenance of "Ohio River Valley" when I sell them, that should cover it. A lot of points, most of them whole, and not a fake in the bunch! Not quite what I hoped for, but I will still take it! These were bought to sell, so if you see something you want, give a holler! I'll sell them individually, or by the dozen! ![]() The entire collection. ![]() Some of the larger points. ![]() Some more of the big ones. ![]() Some of the nicer pieces, including a killer drill and a neat little Dalton, plus one bone bead! ![]() Two nice pieces of Coshocton, both serrated bifurcates. ![]() I don't know if this nice piece of hardstone is a bar amulet, or if it's just a very old whetstone. |

![]() Some nice Madison Triangles. ![]() Other hardstone - one broken axe and two broken celts. It's a pretty big set, all right, and a few really nice ones. Lots of good field grade pieces too. |

I like the triangles because they are found here frequently and some of them look really nice for triangles.......some of them may be Levanna but I'm too new at this to really tell from the pic. I especially like the 6th one over in your first "continued" pic. give me a price for #1,#2 and #6 in that top row......my devious side is coming out, would it be wrong to use those to "seed" my spot when my kids tags along?....doe's that make me a bad person?

I would avoid making assumptions and not offer provenance. Maybe suggest an origin. You got a little of everything is this batch. I'm glad we don't have hardstone in Texas (Central Texas), something else to obsess about. |

Indianasmith, are there any obsidian artifacts in this bunch? I think Montana has produced a few over the years. That darker flint has fooled me many times when looking at photos....really looks and seems to work like obsidian.

No, no obsidian. The dark pieces are Upper Mercer/Coshocton (Ohio area)
