Cat effigy?

So a cat i know ( no pun intended..) dug this out of a camp.. i told him id post it and see if anyone has any thoughts on it.... well.. i know its kinda creepy, but what yall think.. ever seen anything like it before? And whats the deal with the tally marks?.. number of cat sacrifices? lol.

Yeah man that is pretty creepy. I like it though!!!!!!

Also,tell your friend to be careful of what he/she photographs... SELEX ("Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment") Too much info yes?

It is used as a shaft straightener. The rock is heated and the grooves help hold the shaft as they bend the kinks to straighten the shaft.

Those tally marks definately don't look natural. Native keeping score of whitey's scalps? Whatever they meant, looks like the last high score was 4.

jhaberer, never heard of that method. I have only seen the long groove type shaft straighteners. Nice info. Thank you!

John is correct. You usually find these associated with middle to late archaic campsites. I have found several over the years. The cat head look is incidental to the the scribed lines. Not many of those found. Good eyes! Jay
