Maybe they used it as an abrader stone too. That might explain the lines. Maybe they made the points then straightened the shafts and hafted them all at once...

T D ----I hate to tell you this , but , I have never seen an authenic cat effigy----They were made by the CATahoula tribe in historic times to sell to tourists visiting Manny , La. ( native home of the Catahoula tribe ) . Thousands were made and sold as ancient Cat effigys . But go ahead and send it to theTexas Gruru in Temple . Who knows ; this one may be the exception .--------------hey --I'm just sportin' ya , that is very interesting ! Don

Since we're just screwing off by this point anyhow, Devil's Advocate here. The American Indian population came from Russia, China, &c. &c. &c.
In China, they had the ability to carve jade fairly early on. But the most treasured jades, to them, were the "naturals" that looked like something without any cutting or shaping at all. So you have, in that, a potential case for cultural significance even if it is "just a rock." |

Honestly, I think it's a geofact with some visual matrixing. My understanding of shaft straightners is that the grooves are much longer, say 3 or 4 inches, and much flatter. The rock was heated and the shaft placed inside of the groove. JMAO, Raymond

The natives found it and figured........lets bury this thing and a few thousand years from now they'll dig it up and think it's some sort of cat effigy.....I always heard some tribes had a weird sense of humor.
