    Ancient bison skull

This is the best out of a dozen buffalo skulls I have found in the creek. All the other have the nose missing. Since buffalo went extinct in Oklahoma around 1870 (they were reintroduced in wildlife refuges in the 1920s), this is at least 140 years old.

That's a cool find, probably way older that 140 years.
    Thanks for the look,
    Dave

I found lots of them in the Arkansas river after the 86' flood. Are you going to preserve that one? It's really nice.

I have preserved it using 1 part wood glue and 4 parts water. A guy has a website dedicated to the Arkansas river and its treasures. In it he gives the instructions on how to preserve skulls. I don't know if it's ok to plug a website on here, but I'm gonna do it anyway. wbreckinridge.com. Sorry to the mods if I broke any rules...

Nice bison skull dorjblu72. They are hard to find in that good of condition.

Your specimen is the more recent bison bison species but as David said it could very well be much older than 140 years.

I am guessing it is about 24 inches, plus or minus a couple of inches when the horn cores are measured straight across from tip-to-tip?
