Here is my 1st Hard stone artifact I ever found. Some call it a Cubic Nutting Stone and others have said its a Grinder type of tool. Most sides show use wear on it as in dimples or grinding on each face. Its 3 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide. Not sure on the material but its heavy and not a quartzite. I found it in a field where I havent found many artifacts.

Left one is a dimple hammer you can tell by the damage on 1 end and it also is a heavy hard stone type.
Right one is a heat treated quartzite type its red and only has 1 deep divot on it I found it in a Late Woodland campsite where I have found pottery and tiny points like Hamiltons most of the points are less than a inch long.

    Grinder

This is the typical Grinder you will find in the fields here in N GA its a cobble they used to grind nuts with. Grinder is the term used for a not so nice Pestle its just a cobble they would of picked up from a creek and used as is. I have others of these types.

Here's a couple from Mississippi . The triangle piece has the divot on both sides and signs of usage as a hammer stone on two of the three edges .

Keep sharing them I like them. With all these examples and the help of members I actually have learned the difference between the divot stones as how to tell them apart. I have seen the big quartzite stones in the fields for many years but in the past I didnt know why they were in the campsites. It should help a lot of new hunters as to what to look for. Everyone should have a few for their collections its part of the tool kit of ancient man. Thank you
