I agree with you. It is not worth that. But then again not many books are in my opinion. I paid $19.95 for it new.
I heard the Fenn cache book is worth hundreds now too.

The Fenn Cache book goes for over $100, give or take. I would love to have it, but won't pay that. In time, they reprint, usually in paperback, and you can get the same info for much less. I have plenty of books to study already.

Story in Stone

My favorite reference book is D. C. Waldorf's Story in Stone ; Flint types of the central and southern U. S. Mr. Waldorf writes in a easy to understand format. His wife, Val, illustrated the book and was second to none. The book was copyrighted in 1987 so is a little outdated but still great.
A friend lent me his copy and since then I have seached high and low for a copy of my own ( and finally found it at Mound Builders Books, 50 bucks though, if I can find the money I will have a new copy).

Great Basin & Wyo books

Cougar Mountain Cave by John Cowles, 1958 - Great images of earliest paleo artifacts from the region. Courgar Mtn Cave is cloes to Fort Rock, OR. Out of print, and a tough find. But, one of the best GB references I have seen. It set the stage for GB typology.

Just found this one:
Archeology of Mummy Cave Wyoming - Husted & Edgar, US Forrest Service. 2002 - Electronically availabe on the web,

More Great Basin reference! This book gives interpretations for the meanings of rock art.

A Field Guide to Rock Art Symbols of the Greater Southwest - by Alex Patterson.

"This is the only specifically designed key to the interpretation of American rock art. The Field Guide brings together 600 commentaries on specific symbols by over 100 archaeologists, researchers, and Native American informants. Covers the northern states of Mexico to Utah and from California to Colorado."

This is a cool book that I got at the last Tulsa artifact show. It's put out by the archaeological society of Oklahoma. There were only 50 printed and mine is 35/50. Some of the collections that appear in the book are from Larry Merriam, Lyle Nickel, Rick and Karren Neal, Jerry Brandstetter, Lonnie Hartline, John Richardson, etc. It has great color photos of some of the nicest points found in the state. I like looking at it because it helps me identify local materials with good color photos. It's a great reference book for Oklahoma collectors.

My first books in the collection.

1. they came here first [b]by D'Arcy McNickle copyright 1949
2. War Clouds In The West [b]by Albert Marrin copyright 1984
3. The American Heritage book of INDIANS (Hard Back)

I have been on the hunt for more good deals on historical books. Antique malls have been my best luck in finding them.
