I hadn't thought about taking my MP3 player into the field but that's not a bad idea. Full of Metallica even.
... I have seen that in any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself.

Metallica rocks!
Hey, I'm as superstitious as the next guy (well, not as superstitious as Roy Mills) but honestly, my best finds have came along when I was so into hunting that I was fully functioning on automatic. Maybe I was in the Arrowhead zone?
David of the Crain Gang----THE hat Dave---THE HAT ! The ugliest hat I have ever seen----no--not the ugliest , Indy has that title----but a really , really homely hat you have---Don

Not all who wander are lost.
I do various Rituals when beginning a Hunt....
I drink a Rockstar and get myself Pumped to hunt..
I listen to the Residents or Frank Zappa on the Drive to the Parking spot.. Mostly the Residents (because i have 55 of their Albums on my Ipod that's plugged into my System).. Either seems to add to the experience..
I will pick up that piece of Chert or Chalcedony or whatever Flake material i find and carry it with me, Rubbing it often to keep me focused.. haven't left it after finding a Point or Artifact, but will give it a try..
I've done the Tobacco gift, breaking up a Cigarette and sprinkling it around..
I even break up Granola bars and offering them as well.. usually to the small rodents in the Area..
I'm not soo much Superstitious, it's just that certain rituals have worked their way into my Routine over the Years.. and they don't seem to hurt anything.. soo i just do them... (Like my Ritual of Kissing the first Fish i catch during a day's Fishing, been doing that for 30 years...)![]()

Flyjunkie, I usually eat the fish I keep. Was never into "catch and release", unless they are too little to keep. I grew up a poor white farm boy in Idaho, so we hunted and fished not only for recreation, but for food also. Nuthin better than some some fresh fried taters and trout!![]()

But did you KISS them?
That's a new one on me.

If I did, was probably drunk...cuz I don't remember it..lol

picking up a flint chip and holding/rubbing it seems to be a common one....I'm in that club as well. I have also said some kind of prayer to the Indian spirits as I walk and start getting closer to my spot I hunt.....Don't know if it helps or not but I figure it certainly can't hurt!
Desertwalker.....those bugs on your previous post had me swatting the screen!![]()
Like blueovalfever, I too almost always pick up the first piece of flint I see and hold on to it until I find an artifact. I have done this for as long as I can remember and it's more of a habit now than a superstition.
I also have a few broken Beads from various village sites I hunt that I keep in the bottom of my Bead vial. There's a few Marginellas, a couple Shell Disc, and even a Shell Tube Bead that split in two lentgh wise. I keep them for good luck and there have been times when I forgot my vial and I didn't find one single Bead.
My brother and a friend of his would always rub the dirt from the field onto their hands and faces before they entered the field to hunt it. I don't know if ever actually helped them, but they looked like hogs that had been rooting in the mud. lol
