Description:
|
Ancient dugout canoe (Levy Lake Canoe). The canoe is around 11.5' long.
As you will see, my canoe is nearly perfect in overall condition for its age (610- 700 years old) as per carbon dating completed by the University of Arizona's . I found it on our property at the bottom of our lake back in the 90’s and took over a year in preservation using boiled linseed oil and turpentine. I have housed it in my conditioned pool room since then. I used this method of preservation as recommended by the experts at the Florida Natural History Museum, and it remains in the same condition as when I first preserved it.
Our property has a long history of Indian artifacts. In 1949 the burial mound was excavated Ripley P.Bullen. The Woodard Site. Florida Anthropologist (1949) 2: 49-64 Additionally, over the years I have recovered numerous pieces of pottery, points, knives, scrapers, and stone tools. The majority of these items date back to around 1200 years old.
I am now looking to find a good home for my canoe, as I have recently become disabled and need to pay medical bills. Any questions: call Craig 352-222-8488
