Texas Beyond History (TBH) is a collaborative effort initiated by the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (TARL) along with many other key Texas educational groups. It’s charter is to provide a virtual museum of Texas’ rich archeological and historical heritage.
TBH boasts that it contains information spanning the 540 generations of humans that called Texas home. That goes back 13,500 years ago! Of course without any written record for the majority of this span, TBH utilizes the ‘material’ record left behind by Ancient Texas to interpret their lifestyle. The arrival of the Spanish in 1528 welcomed the advent of the written record which provides a clearer picture of what life was like almost 5 centuries ago.
TBH does a fine job of covering the people, places, patterns of the past, artifacts, and interpreting what it all means. And it doesn’t stop here. The Texas Historical Commission estimates there are over 2 million archeological sites in Texas and TBH has grand plans to cover some of these more significant sites, incorporate video, and report on sites ‘in the not-so-ancient history of Texas that aren’t even considered archeological sites at all’.
Check it out and let them know what you think. If you have suggestions on what would be of interest to read on TBH, drop them a line. Enjoy!
If you have a site that should be featured as an arrowheadology.com “site of the month,” please send us a note!
